In this competitive time, there is a strong need of personal assistance to every aspiring student. There has been tremendous progress in the field of private tutoring. This is so because, students are now more determined towards career and for this solid preparation is must.

Apart from classroom teachers, private tutors have also been responsible for the student’s improvement in the examinations. Classroom has several factors for distraction, teachers are not able to pay attention to every student, and not all students are straightforward enough to stand up and raise their problems. Private or personal tutors have helped many students to excel in their academics and as well, as score outstanding position in competitions.

Private tutors provide a student to clarify their confusion. Adjusting with a private tutor is easy as compared to the classroom teacher. Moreover, classroom is never out of competition, if a student is weak and is not able to cope up with class, the marks are degraded. Confidence is one of the qualities required by a student and it is gained when he has clear concepts and a genuinely helping hand.

Private tutors are a boon for these students, students can learn concepts of Math and Science more easily, and they feel free to ask question many times. There are many cases, when under the guidance of a private tutor; student develops interest in a subject that he hated the most. Gaining marks in those subjects that feared the students is a rejoicing experience for a student, and it works as a motivating factor, to develop interest in studies and be committed toward the career.

As journals contain the log of academic research, discourses, as well as opinion on a topic they are very useful for students, research scholars, and professors or anyone in the field of education, research and training. Information incorporated in journals is found to be very useful and are relied upon as authentic. Students pursuing higher studies are often asked by their instructors and supervisors to refer to journal articles for preparation of their project works.

Usually journals are not found in books and other publications. Rather they come up as independent collection of materials in form of magazines and publications. They are also available online. One can find a lot of journal articles on a topic by using Google search engine that will display on the top of the result page “scholarly articles and works on the topic”.

Integral part of any quality online or brick and concrete libraries; journals deal with multiple aspects like medical science, engineering, technological as well as experimental breakthroughs; description of current hot events and topics; and above all; case studies on groups, communities, and companies.

Finding and using journals won’t be a daunting task if you find out a quality provider online.

The best ways to quickly prepare for the GMAT should not be difficult, but must entail appropriate planning-especially taking mock tests before the date of your exam. I recommend taking at least 3 practice tests prior to your exam because this will ensure familiarity and will help to reduce stress. You can learn the best methods…

Discovering the best ways to prepare for GMAT fast is something you need to do if you want to score high on the exam with limited time to prepare. The first step that you should take, after securing your test date, is to take a mock exam. This will not only give you a feel of how the GMAT is conducted, but this will also show you what sections you need to concentrate on during your preparation.

The next step is to devise your own plan of attack. For instance, if during the mock test you realized that you scored low in math, then you need to prioritize your math review and allocate more time to it than grammar or essay writing. One of the best ways to prepare for GMAT fast is to find study manuals on the particular section you have problems with. Although you still need a review book that includes all sections of the GMAT exam, you also need a study manual on your waterloo subject. If you are already good in Math, then you probably want to get a book specifically designed to review and practice your verbal and grammar skills.

The third step that you need to take is to get to know the different formats of the GMAT exam. In high school or college, you are probably given problems that are straight forward and easy to understand. On the GMAT exam, you need to prepare for easy test questions that are presented in various ways, which can be quite confusing. One of the best ways to prepare for GMAT fast is to get as much practice as possible. Try to take several mock exams given by different websites or GMAT review materials. Constant practice can also hone your critical thinking skills.

The fourth step in ensuring that you get the best ways to prepare for GMAT fast is investing in study aids. Since there are so many learning styles, you have to know what style works for you. This will allow you to absorb most of the things that you are studying. If you do not know your learning style, buying different review kits and study aids will help you determine which is best for you. Flash cards, audio books, or GMAT tool kits will surely help you in learning difficult concepts and mastering skills faster than just reading books.

Distance education has come out as a prominent solution for students who have been trying to juggle between their work and education. Given the prominence of living sciences in education as well as the living world, it does not come as a surprise that biochemistry has taken a front foot as compared to the other streams in medicine. The distance education courses pertaining to biotechnology research is helpful in letting us decode the intricacies that are involved in molecular make up of the biochemical world. Furthermore, it is also able to help with the understanding of the modifications that could possibly save species from extinction.
If you are interested in biotechnology research or even agricultural research, it would be a better approach to begin with a good survey of the subjects that come within this wide stream. These include physiology, molecular as well as cell biology, as well as microbiology. You can later add on subjects such as that of enzymology, cell communication, as well as gene regulation to your advanced biotechnology research. You have the option to excel in one or even more of the pertaining areas. These programs help the aspiring researchers to understand and analyse about the functioning of the human body along with the genetic structure of the system.
The field of biochemistry extends to molecular biochemistry, macromolecular metabolism, physical biochemistry, and nutritional biochemistry. The distance education approach focuses on the medicine as well as healthcare. Advanced studies pertain to developing newer and resilient medications as well as therapies for the denunciation of diseases. Biotechnology firms as well as the scientific publishing houses have been on the look out for researchers and graduates to bring forth novel accomplishments over the topics of agriculture research, as well as pharmacology and veterinary medicines. You also have the option to learn about the gene expressions as well as the development of the science of genetics in biotechnology research.
Universities have started to offer research subjects under distance education. This has helped the candidates who have interest in the fields of agriculture research as well as the other fields pertaining to the same. You can also approach the foreign universities in US and other nations for gaining a degree on the same. Universities such as Maryland and Saint Joseph offer distance education pertaining to agriculture as well as biotechnology research. You will be able to learn about the courses through a well-maintained lecturing material, which comes with audio as well as video lecturing.
The distance-learning mode has been prompt in solving the education needs of a large mass of population and given the current rate of their popularity, they will be able to carry forward this tradition into the future.

Taking online classes is a popular way for people who already have jobs to earn another degree at their own pace so they can earn more money. The type of people who usually take online classes are looking for advancement in their careers, are looking to change their careers, or they just want to finish a degree program they started at another college.

Online schools offer hundreds of different programs. Choosing from these different programs allows potential students to find a program that suits their needs. Programs such as business management, medical billing and transcription, computer programming, marketing, human resources, and communications are just a few of the programs you will find at almost any online school. You will also be able to choose from a variety of degrees, including Associates, bachelor’s, master’s, MBA, JD, and PhD.

Traditional schools can charge thousands of dollars in tuition fees. Online school tuition is much cheaper, and you will not have to worry about the cost of textbooks because most online programs do not require them. Materials for most classes can be downloaded, including lectures, assignments, and additional notes.

When you enroll in an online school, you will not have to attend class in a classroom. Instead you will be able to do your assignments at home, at the beach, in a park, or in any other leisure place you can think of. People who work full time will be able to do their school work around their work schedule. Students will not have to waste time looking for a place to park at school or leave work early to get to class. Lectures, notes and other materials will be send to you at home so you can prepare for quizzes and tests on your own pace.

Having to work and attend a classroom at the same time can become very stressful. When you enroll at an online school you will be able to plan your study time around the rest of your day instead of the other way around. You can study in the morning or at night, whichever is most convenient for you. You will not have any strict schedules when you take classes online. Complete assignments when you are ready, as long as they are completed by the end of the semester. You will have at least a week’s time to prepare and take an online test.

For parents that need to finish school or earn an extra degree, online schooling is the most convenient route because you can work around your own schedule, and you will not have to quit work to finish school.

At a traditional college, students may have to take a bunch of extra elective classes to fulfill their degree. With online degree programs, you will not have to take elective classes unless required by your major. This allows you to study specifically what you need to learn for your job. This saves a lot of time for those people who just want to focus on information that is relevant to their major and will help them earn their degree faster.

These are just a few of the many advantages of taking online classes. People who enroll in online degree programs are able to manage their time, learn the materials that are presented, and complete assignments when they feel ready. This type of learning helps many people learn faster and retain more information. Earning a degree will a person advance in their current career or help them find a new one.

Putting together a presentation for school can be a little bit stressful, to say the least. Here are a few tips to get you headed in the right direction.
Preparation
More than likely, you have a good set of guidelines from your teacher or professor. Give them a good going over, and start brainstorming and making notes. If you can, arrange to meet with your professor to see if he or she have any additional thoughts as to what you might do with your presentation, and what some good places might be to begin your research.
When it comes to research, whatever you do, don’t let Google do all the work. In fact, it might be a good idea to pretend, at least for a day or two, that the modern search engine doesn’t exist at all, and turn to some old-school methods. For instance, you can make your friendly local librarian’s day by going to the library and having a conversation with the with him or her about your topic, and where you might find some good research material. Or, you could contact an expert in the field and conduct an informational interview. These are the kinds of things that will give your presentation that something extra, and you will learn a lot more, and have a lot more fun in the process.
Putting It Together
Once you have all your notes and research together, you should start to put together an outline and general plan for the flow of the presentation. You will want to make sure there is time for a brief but informative introduction, as well as some sort of conclusion at the end. For all intents and purposes, you are creating a research paper in talking form. After the introduction, start to create your narrative in a way that will keep your audience entertained. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you have to start at the chronological beginning of you tale. Some of the best stories start in the middle and work outward and inward from there.
Multi-Media
You should, of course create a PowerPoint presentation to go along with your talk. Don’t go overboard, or rely on your slide show too heavily, however. Keep the number of slides to no more than about 15 for a one-hour presentation. As far as other multi-media, if there are tangible examples of what you are presenting on, bring them and hand them out to pass around.
Your PowerPoint slides should be printed out and bound together along with any other handouts you might have and bind them together in an attractive and easily-read way, such as with spiral coil or plastic-comb binding. These are relatively inexpensive and your school may even have the binding machines you will need, making the process even less expensive.
Practice!
You should make sure that you reserve plenty of time to practice your presentation (including transitions to and from your multi-media) before you give it. The more you practice, the more comfortable you will be while giving your presentation. Enlist the help of friends and family to give you some constructive feedback. Make sure that you leave a little time at the end of your presentation for questions, and dress up, of only a little bit, to give yourself a more professional appearance.

Listening is a crucial skill for professional and personal success. Yet it seems like such a basic skill – we all know how to listen, right? But although this skill is basic in theory, it’s difficult to execute. Yes, everyone can listen, but how many people can listen well?

Communication is a two-way street – there is a sender (the speaker) and there is a receiver (the listener). And if all goes well, the message that is sent is the same message that is received. As the receiver/listener, it is your job to make sure you understand what the sender/speaker is trying to communicate.

Why is listening important? First, it shows respect to the speaker. When was the last time someone listened – really listened – to you? Didn’t it make you feel good, like you had something worth listening to? That’s how you want to make others feel when they speak to you. Business and life would be a lot easier if we showed each other more respect.

Second, if you listen well, you can learn something. If you ask a good question and then open your ears and close your mouth, you’ll be amazed at what people will tell you. This point was driven home by one of my favorite colleagues, Nancy Urell, when she shared a wise saying that she heard: “When you talk, you hear what you already know. When you listen, you learn something new.” (Nancy Urell, Principal, Career Corner Associates, a training and career management firm, www.careercorner.net) What new things could you learn if you stopped to listen?

Here are 5 ways to improve your listening skills:

1. Focus. If you decide that someone is worth listening to, then give the speaker your full attention. Turn away from the computer and set your cell phone to vibrate. We may like to think we can multi-task, but we really can’t do it with tasks, and we certainly can’t do it with people. You can’t read your email or read the newspaper and listen to someone at the same time. Sure, you might hear what they are saying, and you may even catch the meaning of some of it, but you are not really listening.

2. Show that you are listening. Make eye contact, ask relevant questions and avoid distracting behavior like yawning or checking your watch frequently.

3. For a few minutes, let it be all about the other person. Don’t use the time to think about your rebuttal. It’s important to remember that the function of listening is to understand what the other person is saying, not necessarily to agree with it. Yes, you can disagree, but first you have to understand the other’s point of view. And sometimes, just listening and having the other person feel “heard” will be enough to defuse any disagreement.

4. Read between the lines. Don’t just listen to the words – also tune into the non-verbal communications. Watch the other’s body language and become aware of the feelings behind the words. If you’re not sure, ask questions to check that your understanding matches theirs. Usually you have to deal first with the person’s feelings, whether anger, frustration or joy, before you can move on to problem-solving or resolution.

5. Resist the urge to interrupt. Ah, this is a tough one for many of us, me included. Sometimes we’re so agitated by what we’ve heard, or we’re so excited, that we feel we have to cut them off with “but that’s not what happened” or “you think that’s bad, wait till you hear what happened to me!” Interrupting tells the other person that you think your words are more important than theirs, which is not the message you want to send. As with any skill development, practicing helps.

As Stephen Covey reminds us in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, “seek first to understand, then to be understood.” The next time you’re in a conversation with a colleague, a loved one or even someone you’ve just met, practice active listening. You’ll be amazed at how that simple habit can improve your relationships and give you opportunities to learn.

In my last post, 3 Different Types of Learners, I explained the 3 different broadly accepted types of learners. These are Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic/Tactile.

In this post I will explain and provide different strategies and exercises for the 3 different groups of learners. Remember though, that most people are usually a combination of different learning styles with one that stands out predominantly.

You will find that in certain circumstances, some learners will need to use different learning strategies. For eg. I am a mixture of all 3 learning styles and learn well from reading written notes (visual), but also learn whilst writing out the notes (kinesthetic).

Visual Learning Strategy – studying tips for visual learners to use

• Outlines – if a learner understands how a certain concepts relates to the section/subject as a whole they will grasp it quicker, and have a deeper understanding of the subject as a whole

• Maps – mind maps, organisational charts, diagrams

• Highlighters

• Lists – bulleted points are easy to read

• Colour code sections of work so that the learner relates that colour to that concept

• Use of videos when possible

• Flashcards

• Visual Mnemonics – pictures to remember concepts or steps of a concept. Good for learning languages as the learner can associate a word to an image

Auditory Learning Strategy – studying tips for auditory learners to use

• Word associations and mnemonics

• Mnemonics are rhymes or songs made up to help the learner remember certain things. You can Google this to find tons of different ideas.

• Word association and acronyms – E.g. to spell BECAUSE “Betty eats cakes and uncles sells eggs”

• You can also summarise points this way

• Eg 3 traits of Hitler

• A G E – Autocratic, German, Enigmatic

• Get the learner to explain what you have gone through back to you in their own words

• Get the learner to repeat facts and figures that they have to learn parrot fashion with their eyes closed to themselves

Kinesthetic/Tactile Learning Strategy – studying tips for kinesthetic learners to use

• Role play

• Get the learner to physically do it themselves – i.e. make their learning tangible

• Take them on a field trip

• Study in short bursts and give them frequent breaks

• Try getting the learner to walk/ tap their foot whilst explaining something back to you or have them play with a yo yo whilst studying. They could also take their notes to gym and read through them whilst on an exercise bike

• This stops their mind from being distracted by wanting to do something else more active. This means that they will be able to concentrate better on studying.

• It provides the stimuli needed to learn

It is essential for learners to have study skills, however it is even more important for them to have study skills relevant to the way they learn. I hope this post helps to get your learner studying smart and not hard!

Please feel free to post comments on other ideas you have for study tips or things that you have found to help you or your child.
